Sunday, April 18th, 2010—Bar 98

Day 98—Saturday, April 17th
Parkview Nite Club

Okay, I slept in on Saturday and then spent over four hours putting that day’s post up. The internet connection was really slow at the hotel and once I was over an hour in importing photos and text and the internet just crapped out on me and I had to start all over. Oh, the things I do for the 365 Bar Crawl! Anyway, tonight I’m meeting Michael and Sean (the host of last night’s dinner party) at the Cleveland Stadium to watch the Golden Gloves and then it’s off to the Parkview Nite Club for food, music and booze. It’s going to be a manly-man’s night at the old bar crawl, so put on your boxing mitts and let’s shove off!

Okay, I'm going to walk to the Cleveland Stadium and meet Michael and Sean. Pete and Pete, huh, I wondered what happened to those guys.

Okay, the guy at the front desk said to take a left on 9th and it's about seven blocks up.

Dear Mr. Fantasy...

Okay, here we are.

Here's Sean and Michael, time to let the night begin!

They're setting up for the fights.

Here's Tom Ondrey who works with Michael at the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Tom's a photographer there, so...

I asked him to take a photo of us at our ringside seats.

A big crowd was building for the fights.

But I was a little more interested in the action happening here. Can you say, "Budweiser?" I knew you could!

Boy, that's a hell of a thing to put on a beer cup!

Okay the action's about to begin.

The first fight of the night.

Hello Round 3!

It just dawned on me, if I wanted to watch guys beating the shit out of each other, I would've never left New York! I decided to go talk to Miss Round Three.

I went over and found out her name is Amanda. She was really sweet and happily agreed to pose for a photo. I like the Golden Globes...I mean Gloves!

Here's a couple of tough guys! Michael with Joe Maxse who's a sports writer at the Plain Dealer.

Here's the guy we came to see, Eduardo Alicea, Sean is friend's with his father and has known him since he was a toddler. As you can see, he's no longer a toddler!

Eduardo wins!

Sean's friends Denny, Nick and Bob cheer Eduardo's victiory. They say they're coming to New York in the summer, so you may see these guys on the 365 crawl!

Sean poses with Eduardo's proud father.

Eduardo getting interviewed with his prize belt.

Eduardo teaches me not to be a wise guy. Amanda, help!

On to part two of the evening, The Parkview Nite Club. Looks like a cool place!

The joint is crowded, it's Saturday night and there's live music with no cover charge!

Norm's been the owner of Parkside since 1993.

Here's the bar's player piano.

And like magic dinner is served. Waitress Debbie brings cheeseburgers and beer. The food was delicious!

We're on the third round, where's Amanda when you need her?

The band of the evening was Cleveland's own Hollywood Slim Band.

Harmonica solo!

Here's the band's MySpace page: Hollywood Slim Band.

Upcoming bands and Happy Hour information hang from the ceiling.

A vintage Rat Pack photo adorns part of one wall.

It's too crowded to do my usual meet and greet thing.

Although I did meet and chat with these two who were seated at the table next to us. It's Brian and Marsha and they were enjoying the music and having a good time.

When we were leaving, Michael ran into his friends, Norma and Kate.

And finally a Cleveland souvenir for Joey D. Goodnight everybody!

Review
Okay, I’m going to cheat a little bit here and direct you to the press on their website: Parkview reviews. This post is really late and I have to resize photos from today’s bar, so you can read the reviews and check out the rest of the pictures and menu on the website, directly below. We had a blast, Hollywood Slim put on a great show and I had a wonderful cheeseburger and company with Sean and Michael Heaton, The Minister of Culture and a wonderful host. Thanks, guys, another stellar night in Cleveland!

This bar looks really cool, I never been to a boxing match, so was it a good flight fight?

SEE? I'm just thinking to get on a flight !

Nice to see you home! I hope to be home soon too, but just don't know when !!
The Jesus hole god wants to keep me here and the weather was beautiful since I got here even if news said rain, so I guess it's an extended vacation.

Looks like you had a busy time there.

So you got to go to Cleveland Stadium and see where all the magic happens, eh? SWEET! The Parkview looks like a great place to hang out and catch some local music. I love the old-school feel of the bentwood chairs and checkered tablecloths. The player piano is just icing on the cake. Mmm....cake. Anyhoo, looks like you had a great trip to Cleveland. I'd like to give a special shout-out to Eduardo for not killing you. Our lives would be so boring without the 365 Crawl!

A Cleveland ATM, not to be confused with a Cleveland Steamer, with Dale Earnhardt Jr. Right next to it? Cleveland ROCKS.

LOL !! Jason stole my identity using my laptop !!! The comment signed Zioum Zioum on the Top is JHwang ;)

I would like boxing !! that's a cool week end you had marty !!! the bar rocks !!

Thanks to the American consulate in Toulouse, Jason got a plane today ;) First, Air France told us the only one flight for NYC today was full and that they were unable to change the ticket schedule before the next week !! WTF! so we went to see the consulate and just one phone call from the consul guy made Air France tell all "there is 34 empty seats in the plane" !!
SEE the MOTHERFUCKER LIARS !!!!!!!!

So, you get Jason back at work tomorrow ;) hihihi

Drink Responsibly. Isn't that an oxymoron or something?

Live music and no cover?! That's unheard of!
