Day 87—Tuesday, April 6th
The Sunburnt CowI got a lot of press in Australia and was on the Australian version of the Today Show and Australia has really embraced this blog. I’ve met some really cool people from the land down under. There’s been David Brooks, Delwyn Cox and of course we’ve all gotten to know my mate Fitzi as he’s become a great daily commentator here. And now tonight I’m meeting an Aussie bloke in person! His name’s Allen Smith and he’s here in New York from the land of Oz and bet a mate of his I would meet him and have a beer with him. Well, I’m happy to help him win the bet, so I’m going to meet him at an Australian themed bar called The Sunburnt Cow, right now.
A dangling sunburnt cow hangs outside the Sunburnt Cow, perfect!
G'day mates!
Warik the bartender cheerfully serves up a Cooper's green ale.
And before I could sit down shots are poured for me and my bar mates, Bruce and Glenn. Cheers!
The colorful bar at the Sunburnt Cow.
Allen arrives and wastes no time getting in to the swing of things. G'day mate!
Cheers from Allen and I!
Some of the rustic settings at the Sunburnt Cow.
The red banquettes and candle-lit tables up front.
Julian's a bouncer at the bar. He's off-duty here enjoying a beer.
Allen swinging from the rafters in the back room.
A crowd has gathered at the bar and a good portion of them are from Australia.
Allen mixes it up with his fellow Oz mates as the 365 card gets flashed.
Warik lines up shots for the crowd.
And the shots are drank. Woo hoo! It's heating up in here!
Allen presents a parting gift of an Australian coin to commemorate the evening. Cheers to Allen, great to meet you mate and goodnight everybody!
Review
Having a G’Day? Then you might want to stop by The Sunburnt Cow for a G’Nite. It’s everything Australian from the imported beers to the eclectic Oz flavored menu. The decor is Aussie surf shack lounge style and it’s a comfortable bar to sit back and hoist a Coopers ale or four. There’s a bar and tables up front and a comfortable lounge type setting in the two rooms in the back.
In addition to the plentiful beer and wine, there’s a long list of specialty cocktails and mootinis to be had here. Some of the specialty cocktails are: The Sunburnt, which is passionfruit infused tequila with fresh strawberries, The Island, a mixture of pine coconut, Bacardi, fresh guava and juice and the Dirty Mother which mixes, kahlua, tequila and milk. Hey it’s the Sunburnt Cow, you gotta throw a little milk out there! There’s a full eclectic menu of Australian delights to be had in the food department including: Roo Bangers & Mash, Fish & Chips, Aussie Mutton Stew and since the name of the joint includes the word cow, you know there’s got to be a special burger to be had. Well, there is, check out the Burger With The Lot which comes with the following toppings: egg, bacon, beets, fried onion pineapple, lettuce and tomato. If you can eat the entire thing, all I can say is, “Good onya mate!”
The Sunday brunch here is legendary, you get one course and all you can drink for 18 bucks. And Happy Hour never ends in this Australian watering hole, for 20 dollars you can drink all your stomach can hold for two hours and this happens the entire time the bar is open.
Thanks to Allen Smith for finding this fine establishment and joining the 365 Bar Crawl. Good on ya, Allen mate! I hope you can make it back here in the states for another round on the 365 Bar Crawl, cheers!

I can't wait to see what Fitzy has to say about this place when he posts today, as I'm sure he will!
The back room looks like it's built into a cave! Cool beans! The first two drinks sound delish (I'm lactose intolerant unless we're talkin' milkshakes). Are the roo bangers and mash made with actual roos? If so, I'll bet it's easy to get all hopped up on em!
I cant wait to make them lose money. All I can drink for $20.00 for 2 hours? I NEED THIS BAR IN MY LIFE. My wallet thanks you Marty. My liver curses you. Cheers to the people down under. I knew a girl who liked to go "down under". That is a story for another type of blog.
The "Australian Crawl" continues.
What a cool joint Marty!
Damn. For $20 back in my day I could have broke this place!
Keep up the great work.
Very cool that you hooked up with a fan of 365 Bar from down under! Good on ya Allen!
Nice work again Marty, and good to see you're still drinking the Coopers Green!!!!!
Cheers to Allen Smith - a fair dinkum, true blue, dinky die, Aussie!
onya Jaws! & yeah mate i felt i was at my local pub here with all those mad aussies runnin amok..... luved ya work on the rafters too Smithy!! great job! (to all my American friends see how us aussies can multi-task, hangin from rafters & scullin' a pint at the same time) & our mate Marty in the middle (ha! "Marty in the Middle" that sounds like a pisshead tv show)....& fuk me! $20 bucks all ya can drink!!! shit i could do some damage there!!!! 'i'd reckon i'd end up sharting meself.....
in the 3 months of bein' in the States i only ran into 2 aussies & that was approprietly on Bourbon St, New Orleans & only happened by chance when a barmaid picked my accent & said the couple over at this table were aussie...so i subsequently yell out "AUSSIE! AUSSIE! AUSSIE!" the couples reply was approprietly "OUI! OUI! OUI!"....so then it was on for young & old...lost count of how many bars we went to, all i remember is getting back to Kim & the motel 7 hrs later & she basically wanted to tare me a new arsehole....which was fair enough....
I think after reading this post I love all things Australian!
