Day 172—Wednesday, June 30th, 2010
The Patriot (Originally headed for Ward III)Tonight is something I’m going to start doing more often and that is go to a bar that’s recommended by a bartender. The other night when I was at Lilly O’Brien’s, Brian (the Will Ferrell look-alike) suggested I try out a bar in the neighborhood called Ward III. He gave it high praise and said it was one of his favorite spots. Brian was a real pro of a bartender and I trust his instincts, so it’s off to Ward III we go.
There's no cabs tonight. This sucks.
Okay, ten minutes later I'm still waiting. What the fuck?
Finally one showed up. Alright, we're on the way!
And here we are at Ward III, there's no sign, just this marker on the door. I like that!
And apparently so do a lot of other people. It's packed in here and it's after midnight! There's no seats at the bar and I don't like the way this guy is looking at me, so we'll try this bar on another night. It does look nice in here.
And so begins another lonely walk in search of a bar for tonight.
HATE the 7-11! Shop at local bodegas, people!
Well, well, well, what have we here?
I like the attitude!
This is Johnny, the door man and bouncer. I think I'll behave for the evening.
There's seats at the bar, okay, we're in business.
And the lovely Margarita serves up an ice cold can of Pabst. Now we're talking!
Nice shots of Marilyn on the wall.
And a cool vintage Pabst neon sign lights up the back room of the bar.
Emily and Paul were enjoying drinks at the bar and were supportive of the 365 Bar Crawl. Cheers to them!
There's tables opposite the bar to sit and enjoy cheap booze and the party-hearty ambience.
Jessica was the other cute bartender on duty.
The bar is long and perfect for...
Dancing! Margarita performs an impromptu dance for the patrons.
Okay, one for the road. Peace and carrots and goodnight, everybody!
ReviewThe Patriot is part dive bar and part country bar in the heart of Tribeca. The all female bartender staff have endearing attitude as well as cleavage and it’s a spacious, two story bar. Downstairs there’s a long bar and tables opposite and booths up front. A jukebox features varied artists such as Buck Owens, Warren Zevon, Lorretta Lynn, Bob Dylan and Tammy Wynette. Put some tunes on the jukebox and don’t be surprised when the bartender on duty jumps up on the bar and starts dancing the night away. Just watch out for your drink.
If your wallet is feeling thin, this is the place to go. There’s Pabst cans available for three bucks and pitchers for eight dollars. Burgers can be had for just a little over a buck. The upstairs has another bar and a pool table and is a little less noisy. Drinks are just as cheap though and a free shot is looming in your future after a drink or three.

Marty,
I love this bar. Gene, Smoopy and myself have been there several times. This Patriot would love to recite the Pledge of Allegiance to Jessica.
TO JESSICA! Good to hear from you Terry, looking forward to you joining the crawl in the fall!
Nobody ever danced on the bar when we were there...but I'm sure Terry could persuade one to?
Way to rebound again! Nice one and I love both the bartenders!
That one chickie upstairs fed me a lime :)
The secret to this place is to get bottled beer ! .... always a fun time .... it can be just as loud at noon time during the week, as it is at midnight on a Saturday. You can count on this place being fun.
Well, I think I'm gonna have me a Margarita...A-HYUCK A-HYUCK A-HYUCK, I just crack myself up sometimes...but seriously Marty, you've managed to fulfill your quota of babe age with this visit (the staff is very easy on the eyes, with the exception of the bouncer who looks like a serial killer, it's perhaps all for the best that you behave yourself in there, none of that old school Peoria style misbehaviour that you've been noted for in your younger days). Another score for the 365 experience! Another Margarita please.
Another save!
Glad you ended up here.
Another fine example of it's the staff and people that make the place!
The bars are merely the canvas and the bartenders and patrons are indeed the medium.
I would love to be wasted away again is this "Margaita"-ville.
Another fine evening.
Creeping up on the halfway mark Daddio!
"Boris"
What a very cool bar that is!!
Thanks for letting us tag along!
I like the looks of this place! Why are there bras hanging from the ceiling?
Ya gotta get to the Keys, know some great bars, bartenders and great deals.
@Biff: That's Victoria's secret and she's not talking.
@MikeyC: I wish I had the dough and vacation time to get there. Come on Mega-Millions!
Marty, if you get Mega-Millions don't worry about Florida - come to Australia!
and again originally headed for ends with another classic post...a dancing margarita a super smiling jessica and victoria's secret hanging on the fan...not mention that horned skull above the bar...this looks to be one hell of a stop on the crawl...oh by the way...kim looked good in the boris designed stuff yesterday...KOC
rr
p.s. checkin' the patroit on flickr it appears that bra no no no bar dancing is/was common/mandatory...and they had another skelaton above the bra no no no bar...KOC

Margarita is her name,,,,and how about marilyn monroe pics, just as Subway inn does it. Ever wonder why dead celebrities and bars go together? I wonder too.
@David Brooks: I'll be on the first flight! I'll meet you and Fitzy at the airport bar, I'll be buying!
After reading the review , all that stuck in my head is two words , " spacious cleavage " ( well it wasn't in that order ) . So if there is a 365 Calender , your going to have to make a vote of which Bartender to use for each month , & I think that would be so Cool !!!!
Support Your Local Bodega , for they are slowly disappearing , & Rob The 7 Elevens !!!!!!!
Next time I go downtown to shop at J&R , I will stop by this Bar & Have a Can of Pabst since I never drank that Beer , always wonder what it taste like !!!
That sign at the entrance of the bar makes me think of what said Coluche : "As they say in poland; drink or drive, anyway we don't have any car!!"
(PS: Coluche President!!! Ok...I'm late but I was not born when he was candidate to the French presidential election in 1981...)
What? If you will the lottery your first stop is not going to be Utah? I'm shocked! What does Australia have on Utah!? I mean besides bars...
@kari, haha, you & Marty should see if ya's could get a 2 for 1 deal on the tickets to Downunder....
@kari and @fitzy and @David Brooks: Okay, looks like kari's along for the ride. She's not much into drinking, which is great, we've got our designated driver! The Mega-Millions is tomorrow! Think positive everyone!
I'll totally be the designated driver! Unless we stop by any of those nude beaches, then I'll need a strong drink. I forgot to get an Idaho lotto ticket while I was there, happy thoughts on the Mega-Millions!!
