Jamie-Lynn’s Kitchen

I don’t get to Brooklyn area bars much due to the fact that I live and work in Manhattan. But James Mollo, a friend of mine has just moved back to New York from California and wanted to meet at one of his favorite Brooklyn dining spots, Jamie-Lynn’s Kitchen, so I agreed to make the trip. Are you ready? No sleep till Brooklyn!

We'll be taking the D train to Bensonhurst, Brooklyn.

The track is thataway.

The waiting is the hardest part.

Here it comes!

The D train in all its glory.

And the car's air conditioning is working. Okay, I've got about a 45 minute trip.

But lucky you make the trip in seconds. Here we are at the 18th Avenue stop in Brooklyn.

Out the exit and...

Hello Brooklyn!

Here's Jamie-Lynn's Kitchen.

And there's the Mollo man enjoying a beer at the bar inside.

James the friendly bartender quickly brings me an ice-cold Budweiser so I can catch up.

Attention Katy Borden: Here's the beers you bought with your generous donation a while back! Cheers and thank you from James and I!

Tables line the wall opposite the bar.

Some of the drink and food specials of the day on the wall.

Here's Anthony a neighborhood regular who was enjoying an afternoon drink at the bar.

Proof that James picked a winner: a tin ceiling!

Alex brought out chicken salad crostini and told us they were on the house. And they were delicious. This place rules!

And here's the spacious back dining area.

The outside beer garden/patio is really nice and relaxing. Let's see who these three people are.

It's Alex, Tricia and Joe enjoying the wonderful day outside at the beer garden. Note the words above Alex: "Laugh and Love," wonderful sentiments!

Okay, time to get back to the bar.

The top of the bar has hundreds of coins encased on top of it. A first on the bar crawl!

It's Saturday and that can only mean one thing: Cheeseburger!

I got the Blue Cheese Burger which comes with blue cheese, carmelized onions and a pile of bacon.

It's one delicious burger!

Check it out, the bun is bakery fresh and the burger is one of the best I've had.

After the burger and a few more beers, James offered up 30 bucks as a donation for the Bar Crawl. James has made several generous donations in the past and I appreciate it. Thanks, James, you're a true pal!

The bathroom here was an unexpected treat, there's albums glued all over the walls.

And this can only lead to...

The obligatory bathroom mirror shot. Goodnight, everybody!

Review
Jamie-Lynn’s Kitchen is an open, airy, casual and friendly place to wine and dine. The coin-encrusted bar is located at the front of the restaurant and you can enjoy drinks and dinner there. There’s also comfortable seating at tables opposite the bar and in the back dining room area. The backyard features one of Brooklyn’s best beer gardens and they show movies back there every Thursday. The atmosphere is friendly and there’s a large variety of home-cooked comfort styled food and drink on the menu.

The bar is a full bar with a good selection of bottled and draft beer. Sangria is a specialty here and on Tuesdays you can enjoy a half-priced bottle of wine with your dinner. The menu is unique and has a large Tapas selection including: Chicken & Black Bean Wontons, Fried Calamari, Chicken Salad Crostini and a Chorizo Platter which includes chorizo, blue cheese & onion marmalade. They have a good selection of salads, burgers and paninis and some of the entrees offered on the menu are: Homemade Chicken Pot Pie, Chicken Gyro Platter, Rustic Hanger Steak and a Mexican Duo which is two enchiladas (chicken and shrimp,) served with brown rice, black beans and pico de gallo topped with red sauce and sour cream.

The drinks are plentiful, the food’s delicious and the atmosphere is warm and friendly. Jamie-Lynn’s Kitchen has been in operation for three years now and looks to become a welcome Brooklyn neighborhood tradition.

Looks like a fun trip to Brooklyn! Thanks for bringing us along on this field trip. A good friend, tin celing, great beer garden and bar and best of all, a great looking burger! Nice crawl to Brooklyn and a great suggestion from James Mollo.

A very beautiful tin ceiling! Love the unique bathroom and bar top. And that cheeseburger looked perfect. Cool outdoor area that I'm sure is enjoyable when you aren't searching out AC. And James is exactly who I would picture behind a bar in Brooklyn, in a good way.

I agree with Kari and Barfly, the tin ceiling and a nice field trip, you can't beat that. Marty's field trips are always enhanced by great music videos. Beastie boys and Petty made it a great ride. Chicken salad crostini,,well that looks great. That young neighborhood guy, Anthony, he look's like he belongs with Christopher on Soprano's with that short trimmed hair and eyebrows,,,,he even looks like a young Joe Pesci.

Brooklyn looks completely laid back. Nice place for a few coldies too.
Nice healthy looking burger with a salad of carrot and green cabbage in stead of fries?
Gotta love a fresh bakery bun too. Looks like a brioche or a corn bread style bun. Nice.
I'm hungry and a bit hungover so I'm off to eat something similar....

@Shannon: Let's try and work that out!

@Gidget: The onion mashed potatoes sound great!

@Tim Clack: It was Asian coleslaw and it was delicious too, great food at this place!

Hey, I when I was in kid in Brooklyn in the 60's I used to know a guy named Mike Mollo. His family had a camera store on 13th Ave. James looks like he could be Mike's kid. Can you ask him. If so, tell Mike that Ken from 12th Ave says hello, and I'll give you my Email address. Haven't seen Mike for over 40 years!

August 1, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterKen K.

@Ken K. I think that is James' family, they had a photo store on the block. I'll ask him at work tomorrow. If it's true it's one more miracle of this bar crawl!

Goddamn, this thing is too weird how people keep intertwining in it! Love it!

@marty, isnt Brooklyn spose to be the bad arse area of NYC? (excuse my aussie ignorance) ....looked pretty good to me,i'd have a chop at a trip like that, for sure!

August 2, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterfitzy

@fitzy: Brooklyn has some great spots, it's not a bad place at all. And it 's not your ignorance, just a myth that's been perpetuated. Good to hear from you, mate!

I think that may be the best looking cheeseburger yet! Mmmm....cheeseburgers. All the rest of the food looked good too. Definitely worth a long train ride. As for the bar itself, looks real nice, from the wide floor planks to the patio to the cool bathrooms to the money bar. All good. Glad you took us here, Marty. My only question - Is the Jamie-Lynn of the restaurant Jamie-Lynn Sigler of boob tube fame? I only ask because, if it is, someone needs to find her in the Kitchen and talk some sense into her. I think she's dating Mark Sanchez and nothing good can come of that. Tell her that anyone who is in such close contact with Braylon "That Football Just Hit Me Square In The Face" Edwards is bound to come down with a bad case of "fumbly hands." And no one wants a boyfriend with "fumbly hands." Yay, Jamie-Lynn! Boo, Mark Sanchez! GO BROWNS!

I like that place very much! What a very fun and cool looking place and I like the outside beer garden/patio quite a lot!

I suddenly feel like I don't know Who I am !!! I mean... I feel like I failed !!!!! OK OK I will stop to smoke someday and learn WHO I AM !!! LOL :D

Hey Marty! Sorry I couldn't stay to meet you, I had to get to a party I was already late for. Thank you so much for coming to visit us, everyone told me how much they enjoyed having you here. I'm really happy you enjoyed the food and the company, as well as the design of the place. We actually built the place ourselves, including the bar u mentioned.( I didn't realize at the time some of my dads old coins were worth so much money lol..oh well) Thanks again for the visit, we hope to see you back soon! And yes, that is our family, Vincent is my dad and Michael is my uncle, we also have an uncle Walter, no more camera stores tho :(, love you cousin James, thanks for recommending us!

It was my pleasure, Jamie-Lynn! You have a great establishment and that cheeseburger was out of this world! James the bartender is a great guy and everybody was super-friendly! I hope to see you next visit! Thanks for letting me crawl in your fine bar and restaurant. And that's one of the best beer gardens ever!
