Dave's Tavern
We’ve had two extra-bright bar crawls in the last two days. I actually have some color on my skin and I need to bring it back to my usual shade of light green.So, tonight it’s back to the basics and we’re off to Dave’s Tavern in Hell’s Kitchen. The name alone is nice and simple and I read that they have free peanuts, reason enough to make this place worthy of being bar number 233.
Okay, here we are at 30th and Ninth Ave. Twelve blocks up and we're there.
And baboom! Here we are, Dave's Tavern.
Nice and dark in here and plenty of seats at the bar, perfect! Hey, where's the free peanuts?
The lovely and friendly bartender, Natalia serves up your basic Budweiser.

Bill's been a regular here for over 15 years, even though he's only lived in the city for two years. Before that he lived in Boston and would come to New York on the weekends and hang out here. Now that's dedication I can respect!

I don't know this guy's name, but with all that white stuff coming out of his nose, he's either got a cold or a problem with the old Devil's Dandruff.

Review
Dave’s Tavern is a no-frills place where the jukebox and drinks are king. The bar is filled with friendly regulars who make the occasional visitor from the nearby Port Authority bus station feel like one too. The bartenders are friendly and female and the jukebox is loud and usually playing vintage to ‘80’s hard rock. Loudly. They like it loud in here.
It’s a full bar with a generous selection of bottled beers and draft beers including: Budweiser, Yuengling, Blue Moon and Bud Light. Happy Hour runs from Monday to Friday, 4pm-7pm with various drink specials including three dollar Budweisers and Yuengling.
Dave’s Tavern is a nice place to enjoy a drink or five, but where were the free peanuts?

Another solid choice. I like the close proximity of the visits to the Holland and Dave's. Just like a real crawl up 9th Avenue. Now that I think about it, if you don't mind heading back downtown on 9th, Billy Mark's West on 9th and 29th is a solid choice next time you're looking for the divier side of things. Last time I was there I think they had a good special of a Miller High Life and a shot of your choice for like 5 bucks or something.

A simple bar with a simple name. Natalia was happy to see you. That is really nice when bartenders are real friendly, makes it all worthwhile. The shot of the bar, with the wood grain and the pitcher is great. I think these old bars,,,they get it,,,less is more. Let me reclaim that green leather couch,,,haven't seen it since the sixties when I lived in California and I loved it. Hey Dave,,can I have my couch back? Ha Ha
@Fat Al: You're the second one who's suggested Billy Mark's, I'll stop in there soon.

Dave? Dave? DAVE'S NOT HERE! What...huh...say what? Oh. Sorry, I was woolgathering. Natalia alone makes Dave's worth the walk. And as for that boar's head on the wall, perhaps Fitzy will be inspired to relate to us one of his cool razorback stories!
Nice no frills place. The regulars are friendly and Natalia is beautiful! Nice shot at the jukebox! Hooha!
@365: I think Gene Chandler is headed up that way for a short visit. But as always you will forge ahead.....@Fat Al: Billy Mark looks good,,,two brothers opened that bar. Not to be confused with the old Billy Munk,,,a great old bar, no longer here.
Looks like a great place and I love their neon sign out front! Al's couch is a nice touch and I'm glad it's leather because you can't wipe down upholstery with a cleansing bleachy product. The regulars seem nice and friendly enough to accommodate an Ohio girl who can drink her weight in beer. I'll have to add Dave's to my go-to list!

@fitzy: I think it was "Panama" by Van Halen, although something tells me you're not looking at the jukebox, mate! I know I'm not! And as soon as my Mega-Millions kick in we'll all be joining you, get the umbrellas and sunscreen ready!

& when you win the mega millions, dont fly Qantas flight QF74 departing San Francisco 10pm to Sydney....just seen news footage of this flight last night with flames shooting out from one of the engines...lucky they were only 1/2 hour into the flight & made it back to San Fran ok....this was the same flight i flew home on last Oct....
I would complain that you didn't call me again being near where I live , but I worked until 11 pm & was very tired , & then was called early in morning to come in earl;y .
Anyway like the Green coach .

@Fitzy: Could have been Aussie CrawL? Goddam Qantas! They had a perfect track record for years and over the last few years it's slowly unravelling. I saw that an aussie sporting team and the John Butler Trio all survived a crash landing in Darwin yesterday too! not sure if that was with qantas.

That couch is coolest. Just a few more dark bars and you could do the chameleon thing and blend in nicely. Speaking of gradually turning green....

@clacky who you flying with??....& fuck Qantas, they stung me $3500 last year, but if i had of went before june30 i could've got the same tickets for $1400....plus i met a couple from the states at work the other day & they flew United for $800 USD each return!!!!!!!

@Fitzy: We're flying Delta...Not Goodrem, the airline. Got returns for around $1100. Thats a pretty sweet deal. AC/DC are huge world wide....I loved the Black Ice tour but thought it was too big. Stiff upper lip at Sydney ent. Centre 10 years ago was way better. Don't think they'll tour again. I'm lucky I got to see them 3 times.
