Tuesday, October 19th, 2010—Bar 282

Day 282—Monday, October 18th, 2010
Cibar

Tonight’s bar is all about the following three things: Location, location, location. I have to come in to work extra early tomorrow, so I have to get up even earlier to post this before I go to work, so I need to go to a bar near by where I live, do my 365 thing and then try and get some sleep. I found a place called Cibar nearby where I live. It’s a martini bar and it appears to be a little fancy-schmancy, so hopefully they’ll get into the spirit (and spirits) of the bar crawl. We’ll see soon. It’s on my way home, so we’ll hoof it over there, feets don’t fail me now.

Here we are, there's no sign outside but...

The menu outside gives them away. Let's go inside.

Nice and dark inside, let's grab a seat.

I got a seat and James the friendly bartender quickly shakes up a chocolate martini for me. (That's right, Jaws, it's an Oompa Loompa night.)

James pours...

And I drink. It was delicious. James is a master martini maker. And he's also a DJ and goes by the name, Agent Trevor, check out his site here: Agent Trevor.

Bill and Nina were seated next to me and enjoying martinis. Cheers!

A shot from one end of the bar...

And a shot from the other end.

Jon and Debbi were seated on the other side of me. They were on their third date and I told them a couple of my dating horror stories from the past.

There's two fireplaces in the lounge area. Here's the one in the back...

And here's the one in the front.

Back at the bar James mixes me up a Rosemary Pear Margarita Martini.

It was so delicious I had two of them.

There's tables up in the front of the lounge area to relax and drink at.

And here's one of the manager's of the bar, the lovely Jennifer with Ahmed.

Lookin' good, Elvis. "Thank ya, thank ya very much!"

There's an outside patio where you can drink and if you smoke, you can light up out here.

Uh, oh, looks like someone had one too many martinis. I need to stick to beer! Here come the Oompa Loompa men! Goodnight, everybody!

Review
Okay, it’s fucking early in the morning and I feel like shit scraped off a shingle. I’m running late for work, so once again I’m cutting and pasting a review of Cibar from New York magazine. I do have to say that this place is a great martini bar. A lot of martini bars are snooty and this place was really friendly. It's a martini bar with a dive bar attitude and you gotta love that. Okay, I'm off to work.

-----------------------
Located in the basement of the exclusive, twelve-room Inn at Irving Place, Cibar is the Miss America of bars: beautiful in a polished yet thoroughly generic way. Amber lights and a working fireplace shed a warm glow on the elegantly curved bar, Victorian banquettes and marble tables. In warm weather, a bamboo-adorned backyard opens up, a good place for intimate tete-a-tetes. The drink list features more than 20 martinis and glasses of Scotch. The clientele (which is rarely a crowd) consists mostly of wealthy business people schmoozing after work and couples smiling awkwardly over appetizers. — Shana Liebman

Happy Tuesday, everyone, cheers! The weekend is just four days away!

You're a brave, brave man, Marty. I can't believe you drank that combo. Perhaps the Pepto Bismol walls are there for medicinal purposes.

Chocolate martini looks like desert,,,,I like the regular martini, ice cold gin or vodka, ice cold with olives the size of mango's. All in all another very excellent choice here and I know the sleepy feeling after those tini's,,,,maybe some Cream,,,Sleepy Time time,,,,is in order.

The booth by the fireplace looks like a great place for a seance. Enie Meane... chilly beanie...the spirits are about to speak...

Cool joint! Nice touch with the frosted martini glasses and you can't go wrong with two fireplaces. I love a good chocolate (or espresso) martini, but would probably have to start with the classic extra dry Sapphire on the rocks with an olive and a twist. As a wise man once said, "Two martinis is too many and three isn't enough." I look forward to testing that theory at Cibar.

Oh, and speaking of penis pumps, those candles on the mantle-top could use some help.

October 19, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterBiff

@Biff sooo awesome you caught that...
I was just thinking they were fire hazards.

Wjat a fun and friendly bar Cibar is. The patrons and managers and bartenders all look so sweet and friendly. The martinis look absolutely delish! Love love love it!!

October 19, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterTiki Bar Susie

@Fitzy: Sorry mate, I've been saving up for one of my own...sorry no sharing.

@Biff & Gidget: Those candle are a worry ...and they're right under the plants...I dunno if thats what is making me feel anxious or is the the pink walls or maybe this coffee...it's making my teeth grind.

@ Marty Tarty: Nice stop off on the crawl but you've gotta be careful leaving yourself exposed like that in public mate. I was waiting for the photo of when your pimp rocked up and bitch slapped you telling you to get back out on the street!!
Gotta love the Choc Martini. What's the pricing like in this joint? ALWAYS good to see Grade "A" popping in for Martini comments. If anyone knows the Martini it's these guys.

@Grade "A" Karen: Howdy!! You'd have to know of plenty of cocktail bars in the city? If you could drop some names that would be Grade "A" Helpful...

October 19, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterTim "11 day's to go" Clack

@Tim Clack: The pricing's a little steep, as it always is in a bar like this, but they comped me two free drinks which was cool. No attitude in here, really nice bartenders and staff. Their chocolate martini was fucking great! Put some whiskey in that coffee and it'll calm those jangled nerves!

October 19, 2010 | Registered Commenter365 Beers

@365: Forgot to mention that Fitzy, Brooksy and I are currently rockin' Wednesday and we've only got 3 days to the weekend. Sorry don't mean to rub it in.... (I'm briefly unemployed so every day is a saturday to me ha ha ha). I've been practicing my beer drinking.

October 19, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterTim "11 day's to go" Clack

@Tim Clack: Ouch! Let's see a photo of your three mugs whooping it up, what are you guys doing besides getting drunk off your noggins? And practice makes perfect!

October 19, 2010 | Registered Commenter365 Beers

Ah yes! I love LOVE Martini's! That's usually ALL I will drink. chocolate martinis, espresso martinis, straight up, dirty, ect! There is NO END to my love of a nice stiff drink!

October 19, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterShannon

@365: Dunno about the other two yobbos but I'll be heading off to rehearse for an upcoming gig whilst drinking cheap mexican brew!! yep. I'm livin' the life. I'll see if I can get a photo over to ya of the dress rehearsal.

October 19, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterTim "11 day's to go" Clack

@Shannon: I"m a whore to (as stated above) when it comes to promoting my blog, but I found people on facebook were reluctant to migrate away from there.

@Tim Clack: I thought you meant the three of you were getting together, that could be a dangerous meeting!

October 19, 2010 | Registered Commenter365 Beers
